Recovery Support

Resilience

flourishing

a state in which all aspects of a person’s life are good

(VanderWeele, PNAS, 2017)

A flourishing person is living a good, fulfilling life, a life with a sense of purpose. They have the ability to do what they want to do and be who they want to be. They have, and are committed to building, good mental health, physical health, and social health in all areas of their lives and those of their community members. This includes family, work, education, community, politics, economics, and more.

A flourishing person has: the ability to help their body thrive, their emotional needs met, the trust and cooperation to function in social settings, and the ability to use their reason for individual and collective ends.

Community

Clubhouses

MHA clubhouses are local community centers that provide members with opportunities to build long-term relationships that can help them secure employment, education, and housing.

“A Clubhouse provides a restorative environment for people whose lives have been severely disrupted because of their mental illness, and who need the support of others who are in recovery and who believe that mental illness is treatable.”

Clubhouse International

Clubhouses thrive when members and staff work together on the business of the clubhouse: food preparation and hospitality, reception, marketing, public relations, horticulture, commercial cleaning, accounting, reporting, and fund development.

Morning meetings are held to plan and organize the tasks for a work-ordered day, one in which the talents and abilities of members are recognized and encouraged through purposeful work activities.

Peer Place

The journey for individuals with mental health conditions is not always smooth. Building resilience makes it possible to navigate setbacks and sustain long-term recovery.

At our Peer Place Support Center, members socialize with others and participate in group and one-on-one support with trained recovery support mentors.

When individuals are asked what made the greatest impact in their recovery, they point to the support they received from friends and family. Peer support mirrors these kinds of relationships by empowering people to make the best decisions for them, and helping them strive toward their goals.

Peer Place is a community where people find unconditional acceptance and receive the support needed to flourish.
